Spring Cleaning: Organizing the Spices {plus two free spice label downloads}
Last week while I was at the store I bought a bottle of cumin for a stew I was making for dinner. When I put the cumin away in the cabinet, I discovered I already had two other bottles obscured from view in the back of the cabinet. Frustrated that I now had 3 partially used bottles of the same spice, I decided to get organized. My solution? Jelly jars and self-adhesive labels.
For this project, I used Avery’s Kraft Brown labels–2.5 inches in diameter {product #22808} and Ball Jar Crystal Jelly Jars with Lids and Bands, Quilted, 4-Ounce, Set of 12.
On Avery.com, you can use their software to create your own styled labels or you can use a pre-made styled template. I opted to style my own. ***I’m not affiliated with Avery in any way.
I used a vintage flower image combined with an easy to read script {font: Raleway}. I ended up with 2 different styles:
.
If you want your labels to be white, don’t use craft brown labels like I did. Buy the white labels. Since I’m giving you the spice labels to download for free, you don’t even need to buy the self-adhesive labels. You can print out the spice labels on regular paper, cut them out and glue or mod podge to your jars.
I emptied each spice jar into the appropriately labeled jelly jar and then recycled the empty spice containers. Since there are so many spices out there, I included a blank label for you to personalize. In the example below, I added a piece of washi tape to a blank label and wrote the name of the spice on the washi tape. I can change the label as needed by simply replacing the washi tape. Side note: I love me some washi tape.
No more wasted money buying duplicate spices. Not that I’ve done that more than once. Okay, several times.
Here’s the freebies! Click on the link to download the spice labels and save them to your computer. They’re in pdf format which is easiest for most. Reminder: If you plan on buying self-adhesive labels, these are formatted to work on labels 2.5 inches in diameter.
Another item crossed off my spring cleaning list!
